CAPS-CERTIFIED AUDITOR

The Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS) Auditor Certification Scheme provides global recognition for Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS) Auditors who conduct conformance audits for third-party certification against the Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard.

The Scheme has been developed to meet the following key objectives:

● To achieve the requirements of the Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS)
● To ensure that auditors meet or exceed the audit and related competencies defined in the CAPS
● To enhance the professional recognition of certified auditors

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE

Requirements

Applicants for CAPS Auditor certification must possess and be able to provide evidence of knowledge and competency as outlined in the Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS). This shall include all the following:

  1. A Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent from a recognised educational institution and in a CAPS recognised field of study (See Annex A)
  2. Management systems training (See Annex A)
  3. HACCP training (See Annex A)
  4. Lead auditor training for a recognised management system (See Annex A)
  5. CAPS Auditor training course and examination (See Annex A)

OR

  1. Auditor certification from a CAPS recognised auditor certification provider (See Annex C)
  2. CAPS Auditor training course and examination (See Annex A)

SKILLS

Requirements

Applicants for CAPS Auditor certification must possess and be able to provide evidence of a proven track record for competently auditing management systems and completing certification audits. These shall be within the cannabis industry or other industries as appropriate.

Skills and work experience shall include:

  1. At least 5 years of auditing industry experience in agri-food/food safety/quality/compliance systems.
  2. A minimum of three work-related references attesting to the Applicant’s performance in auditing and/or direct experience with management systems. The referee is to attest to specific examples of the Applicant’s performance.
  3. An Audit Log demonstrating competency and experience with auditing management systems relevant to the Cannabis industry (See Annex B). A minimum of 20 hours of auditing against a CAPS recognised management system is required.
  4. A signed Auditee Review Letter demonstrates that the auditor effectively demonstrated auditor skills and personal attributes.
  5. A Statement of service from an Accredited Certification Body (See Annex D).
  6. A signed Skills Attestment Letter from an accredited certification body OR A third-party skill assessment.

OR

  1. Auditor certification from a CAPS recognised auditor certification provider (See Annex C)
  2. A Statement of Service from an Accredited Certification Body (See Annex D).

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Requirements

Applicants must provide evidence they possess the personal attributes that align to the Principles of auditing defined in ISO19011. These principles include:

  • Integrity: the foundation of professionalism
  • Fair presentation: the obligation to report truthfully and accurately
  • Due professional care: the application of diligence and judgement in auditing
  • Confidentiality: security of information
  • Independence: the basis for the impartiality of the audit and objectivity of the audit conclusions
  • Evidence-based approach: the rational method for reaching reliable and reproducible audit conclusions in a systematic audit process
  • Risk-based approach: an audit approach that considers risks and opportunities

Applicants are required to demonstrate the required attributes by providing:

  1. A signed Behavioural Attestment Letter from an accredited certification body.

2. A third-party attributes assessment.

Application Fee:

First Certification Fee:

$250.00 USD


Annual (renewal) Fee:

$250.00 USD


Recertification Fee:

$350.00 USD


Upgrade (Expansion) Fee:

$150.00 USD


  • The Application fee is payable by credit card when the initial application for certification is submitted.  
  • The First certification, Renewal fee, Recertification fee, and Upgrade fee are payable by credit card upon the complete review of your application by the review team.
  • You will be notified via email of when the fee is due for payment. This will include information regarding how to pay.
